The Pyrethrum Extract supplier has informed that the concerned active ingredient has undergone significant updates regarding the nomenclature, the CAS number and its classification.UPDATED NAME: Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium (these are at least four compounds contained in variable concentrations in the Pyrethrum Extract obtained with solvents from the open and ripe flowers of Tanacetum cinerariifolium).

CAS NUMBER: 89997-63-7

The updated CLASSIFICATION provides for the introduction of the phrase H317 “May cause an allergic skin reaction” which consequently requires updating of the classification and labeling of products that contain an amount equal to or greater than 1% technical, as required from the CLP Regulation.

The aforementioned updates do not imply, however, any change in the molecule of the active ingredient: the chemical structure, therefore the active part of the molecule, remains identical.

Therefore:

  • the products already on the shelves with the old classification must be withdrawn from the market and re-labeled according to the provisions of the aforementioned regulation;
  • stocks already purchased must be re-labeled in accordance with the new provisions of the CLP by the company owner in accordance with the provisions of TU 81/08 on safety in the workplace;
  • stocks produced before that date will have to be labeled in accordance with the new provisions before being placed on the market.

Furthermore, in line with the transitional provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the application of the new harmonized classifications is allowed and the labeling and packaging can be adapted, on a voluntary basis, before the date of application of these new or harmonized classifications.

For products containing technical Tetramethrin in quantities equal to or greater than 1%, it will be mandatory to update the classification by applying the phrase H351 “Suspected of causing cancer”.
